Pets that come into the Louisa County Animal Shelter without a collar are only held for 5 days, so there is no time to waste! Call the Louisa County Animal Control Office at (540) 894-4219 or (540) 967-3477. It is located on Mica Road (Route 700) in Mineral. They are open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am - 3:00pm.
Also, try checking www.petfinder.org to see photos of the animals that have been brought into the Louisa County Animal Shelter. (Fill in the form on the left side of their site.)
Found Peahen (Female Peacock) (posted 5/12/08) I have found an adult peahen (female peacock) in the Boyd Tavern area. I live on Woods Edge Rd. (Route 623). She has been here since Thursday, 5/8/08 and appears to have an injured right wing, but able to fly into low branches and get away from the dogs. I have called animal control but when they came out she must have been in a tree. I am worried my dog will attack her if she is injured and not getting shelter.

Lost Dog (posted 5/3/08) On 04/24/08 Russell got out of his fence and we haven't seen him since. He is very shy to any strangers. We have had him since he was one year old and he is comfortable with the family members in our household only, and will run when approached by anyone else. He's not mean, just shy. If you see or have seen him please call us ASAP. We truly miss him!

Lost Dog (posted 12/15/07) On Sunday, 12/9/07, while visiting with friends who live just north of Apple Grove in Louisa, I lost "an cliuin" (gaelic for.....the wolf) a spayed female red husky with amber eyes, about 42 lbs. "an cliuin" was last seen running top speed heading N by NE down Carpenters Lane at top speed heading toward Rt 33. My daughter is inconsolable.......now, all she wants for Christmas is her puppy back.

She was wearing a chain collar with a yellow "Home Again" tag (microchipped). I have posted notices at the intersections of 33 and 522 (Cuckoo); at 522 and Apple Grove Rd; and at Apple Grove Rd and 33.........and have visited with both Harkrader farms and others. Anything that can be done would be greatly appreciated.

Found Cat (posted 8/4/07) Beautiful long-haired gray cat showed up at our house off Rt. 522 N (Contrary Creek area) in the Freshwater Estates Subdivision in Mineral. Very friendly and we've been taking good care of him since he showed up on July 21, but we'd like to find his owner since he's obviously someone's pet.

Lost Dog (posted 7/22/07) Sonja has been missing since approximately June 17th, from the Byrd Mill/Waldrop Church Road area. She is approximately 9 years old, but very active and loves to play with other animals. Sonja is VERY friendly, and is a herding dog by nature.

Found Dog (posted 7/14/07) I wanted to post a message about a dog roaming around our neighborhood. He has a collar on with a name tag, but he won't let me near him. He's probably been missing a while since he is VERY VERY skinny and undernourished. I can see his ribs. I've been feeding him, but I still cannot catch him. He is definitely a "he" and is a soft orange brown color with large white patches. Looks like maybe a lost hunting dog, or something, but he's definitely a hound. He's been around here for a few weeks now so if you think he's yours he should be easy enough to find. I live on Holly Springs Drive. The dog roams the whole road and area. He's so skittish...

Crewsville Road area, between Paynes Mill and Copperline--
A possibly stray kitty started showing occasionally at our house a week or so ago. He seems to be about a year old. He's black and white, long and skinny, and has very nice house manners, though he is a little food anxious. We weren't sure whether he was lost or let go or just one of those kitties who likes to roam around. We didn't see him for several days, then Saturday morning he showed up early, limping. We got him to the vet right away and learned that he had been bitten on his left front leg and had an abscess. We also learned he is feline leukemia positive. We kept him in and medicated him Saturday night, but Sunday afternoon he slipped out. If you see him, please call--we would like to continue his medical care.
